Dr. Julia T. Iwamasa is a board eligible anesthesiologist who recently joined the group in 2009. Dr. Iwamasa enjoyed a broad liberal arts curriculum at Stanford University in sunny California. She was awarded a BA in Human Biology with an emphasis on Women’s Health in 1995. She spent the following three years completing pre-medical coursework while working as a molecular biology researcher at San Francisco State University.

In 2003, Dr. Iwamasa earned her medical degree at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine, in Seattle, WA. Her training included an externship in Havana, Cuba. Her community service and academic achievement earned her a scholarship from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The medical school was a good fit with its emphasis on a holistic and culturally sensitive approach to healing and caring for patients, its diverse patient population and academic rigor.

After medical school, Dr. Iwamasa traveled for 6 months throughout South East Asia with her husband. Her internship was competed in 2004 at the Harvard Medical School affiliated Transitional Program at Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, MA. Here she enjoyed working with the neighborhood’s large Spanish-speaking communities and even picked up a little Portuguese.

In 2008, Dr. Iwamasa completed her residency in Anesthesiology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons campus at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center. Training included clinical rotations at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Lennox Hill Hospital and the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York Presbyterian University Hospital. St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center is also home to the New York School of Regional Anesthesia. She enjoys working in ambulatory surgery providing sedation and general anesthesia and is particularly well trained in regional anesthesia techniques. She is licensed to practice in both New York and New Jersey.

Dr. Iwamasa is fluent in Spanish. She delights in spending her free time with her husband and two young children.
